In 1939 WW2 Breaks Out

I've had war on my mind from a very early age. My mother took this picture of me in September 1939 - the day war broke out after Nazi troops had invaded Poland

In 1952 I Join the Royal Air Force for my 2 years' National Service

I cross the Atlantic to Canada

and after four days & nights on a train.

In 1950 I see this poster

and fly.

I get to fly the Yellow Peril

Next stop Manitoba

March 1954. My 900 mile solo flight in a jet

First Class to Liverpool UK . . .

England, fog, rain and another jet

and on to Cambridgeshire

World War Three never happened.
Some of my RAF friends were killed during training, others signed on for a further stint and flew Venoms during the Suez crisis. Some became airline pilots, diplomats and solicitors. I left the RAF in Septenber 1954 and went farming.
